Car Bursts Into Flames, Causes Temporary Road Closure In Northern Westchester

Part of a busy route in Northern Westchester was briefly closed after a vehicle went up in flames.

The incident happened on Saturday, Sept. 30 around 4:45 p.m., when crews in Somers responded to Route 139 for a reported motor vehicle fire.

According to the Somers Volunteer Fire Department, arriving crews quickly arrived at the scene of the blaze and doused the flames with water within seconds, quickly extinguishing it.

No injuries were reported from the incident. As a result of the fire, Route 139 was shut down for around 40 minutes before reopening around 6 p.m. 

In addition to crews from Somers, units from the Croton Falls Fire Department as well as Somers, Westchester County, and State Police helped respond to the fire.
